After 3 days of intense negotiations, C. C. Sabathia is reported ready to sign with the New York Yankees baseball team for a $160M, 7 year contract.
This appears to only depend on him passing a physical. Sabathia reportedly has an opt-out option after 3 years.
The original offer, made about 3 weeks ago, was for $140M, 6 years. Final negotiations added another year and $20M. This is the richest contract in history for a pitcher. It topped the next highest offer by Milwaukee Brewers ($100M 5 year) by a wide margin.
This follows the signing of Francisco Rodriguez (K Rod) for 37M 3 year contract to pitch for NY Mets, as New York baseball teams address their pitching problems to help fill the new stadiums next year.
Sabathia is 28 years old with career record of 117-73 with 3.66 era in 8 major league seasons.
